Now, you might be thinking, "Is this person crazy?" But hear me out, boo! You know the drill—never judge a book by its cover (even though I’m guilty of that, too, but I’m working on it). Let’s dive in!
First off, how does ‘life lessons’ start with a ‘T’? Well, let me explain. (Stick with me here!) Life lessons aren't always something we learned from the traditional Value Education Book in school. And frankly, I’m not sure many of us were taught survival skills by our teachers.
But life... life teaches us the hard way. Your passion, empathy, and all those other soft skills might help you feel good, but will they protect you from the harsh realities of the world? Probably not. The world can be pretty brutal.
That’s where travel comes in. Travelling teaches you lessons that you can’t learn from a textbook. And it definitely starts with a T. And no, I’m not just talking about taking a trip to a faraway beach with the same old routine. Travelling is about stepping out of your comfort zone and experiencing the world in ways you never thought possible. It’s about the unknown—the new people, new cultures, new roads, and let’s not forget the new food. (Yes, I said food, because we all know that's half the fun.)
When I was younger, I travelled extensively without adult supervision. Honestly, those trips taught me things I can’t even put into words. But what I can say is this: the feeling I had after those trips was happiness I haven’t felt in a while. Travelling gives you a sense of freedom that’s hard to explain until you experience it for yourself.
But here’s the thing—balancing your life with travel is tough. I learned this the hard way, and I don’t want you to make the same mistakes. So, here are some tips for you, fellow wanderers:
Travel Tips:
-
Travel light but be well-prepared.
Seriously, ask yourself: Do I really need all this stuff? If yes, bring it, but pack it in small quantities. Less luggage means less stress! -
Hydrate!
No matter where you go, always have a water bottle with you. Staying hydrated is key, especially when you're on the go all day. -
Limit phone use.
We all want to capture every moment, but honestly, the best memories aren’t always the ones saved on your phone. Plus, saving your battery means more time for exploring, not looking for a charger. -
Travel within your budget.
Let’s be real—if you don’t have the money, don’t try to live the luxury travel life. There’s nothing worse than going broke halfway through your trip. So, travel smart and know your limits. -
Group trips > Solo trips (most of the time).
Look, solo travel is amazing, and I completely understand if you’re an experienced traveller. But if you’re not, or if safety is a concern, a group is always safer and more fun. Plus, you get to share the memories with people you like (or at least tolerate).
I’m not joking when I say food is the main thing to me when I travel. Don’t judge—food is culture, and culture is everything! So far, I’ve been to several cities, but when it comes to 24/7 food availability, Pune and Mumbai stand out for me. They’ve got some of the best food, at reasonable prices, and the hygiene is on point too. You can eat whenever you want, and trust me, it’s worth it.
Here’s the thing: Not everything cheap is bad, and not everything expensive is amazing. Food is one area where you should always trust your instincts—and your taste buds!
So, yeah, life lessons do start with a T... and they’re often learned through travel. Whether it’s the people you meet, the lessons you learn, or the food you eat (okay, especially the food), traveling opens you up to new experiences you can’t find in a classroom. The trick is balancing travel with life—sometimes you’ll get it right, sometimes you won’t, but either way, you’ll come out the other side richer in experiences.
And just remember: when in doubt, travel light, stay hydrated, and always, always leave room for good food.
